Crigler-Najjar syndrome is a rare inherited condition that affects the metabolism of bilirubin, a breakdown product of red blood cells. Wikipedia Liver or hepatocyte transplantation may be necessary in Type I disease, which is much more severe than Type II. Gene therapy is being investigated for this condition.
