Polycystic ovary syndrome
From SNPedia
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common yet complex endrocrine disorder affecting perhaps 5 to 10% of all women of reproductive age. PCOS can cause reduced fertility in women and is also associated with obesity. Wikipedia
Various genes are associated with higher risk for PCOS or for endocrine abnormalities characteristic of PCOS:
- DENND1A (DENN/MADD domain containing 1A)
- rs2479106 Each G allele was associated with 1.3x odds of PCOS in a Chinese population. [PMID 21151128]
- LHCGR (luteinizing hormone/choriogonadotropin receptor)
- rs13405728 Each G allele was associated with 0.7x odds of PCOS in a Chinese population. [PMID 21151128]
- THADA (thyroid adenoma associated)
- rs13429458 Each C allele was associated with 0.67x odds of PCOS in a Chinese population. [PMID 21151128]
- IDE (insulin-degrading enzyme)
- rs2209972 The C allele was associated with both PCOS and insulin resistance in a Chinese population. [PMID 17953957]
- HSD17B5 (now AKR1C3, aldo-keto reductase family 1, member C3 (3-alpha hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase, type II))
- This gene was reported to be involved in PCOS, but a 2008 publication did not support this association. [PMID 17940109]
