rs11649622 is a SNP within an intron of the cadherin 13 CDH13 gene on chromosome 16.
In a study of a cohort of Finnish prisoners, the rs11649622(A) allele showed the strongest statistical association with violent crime (specifically, homicides). This SNP was also part of a haplotype (including rs12919501, rs4075942, and rs7190768) linked to violent crime. The authors point out state that more than 20 studies have found associations between CDH13 - although not this specific SNP - and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, schizophrenia, substance abuse or bipolar disorder. They also point out that given a population frequency of over 15% for this allele, compared to orders of magnitude lower frequencies of violent crime, the specificity and sensitivity of using this SNP to would be far "too low for any screening purposes, either for primary or secondary prevention of violent offending".[PMID 25349169]
In the same study, the low-activity form of the MAOA gene was also associated with extreme violent crime. In SNPedia, the proxy SNP for this variant is rs909525. The odds ratio associated with extreme violent crime for combined homozygosity for low-activity MAOA (i.e. rs909525(G;G)) and rs11649622(A;A) was 13.45 (95% CI 3.86–46.94; no p value stated).[PMID 25349169]
