Scenesse, generic name afamelanotide, is a synthetic peptide analog of the alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (a-MSH). Scenesse was recommended for approval by the European Medicines Agency in late 2014 for the treatment of erythropoietic protoporphyria, and the manufacturer, Clinuvel, is expected to seek US approval in 2015.
