TPH1 is the rate-limiting biosynthetic enzyme for serotonin in enterochromaffin cells of the duodenum. Expression of TPH1 is inhibited by [1] LRP5. It has been observed that this decreased serotonin blood level normalizes bone formation and bone mass in LRP5-deficient mice.
