ARHGAP11B has the highest degree of radial glia-specific gene expression of 56 genes preferentially expressed in human apical and basal radial glia that lack mouse orthologs. As a gene that arose in the human lineage after separation from chimpanzees, ARHGAP11B may have contributed to evolutionary expansion of human neocortex, or in other words, this human-specific gene may be one of the reasons humans have larger brains.[PMID 25721503]
