Progeria
From SNPedia
Children with progeria are usually normal at birth but appear to age rapidly. Two types of progeria are caused by dominant mutations in the LMNA gene. Relatives of these children are not likely to be carriers.
- Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS)
- Atypical Werner syndrome
Another type of progeria, Werner syndrome, is caused by recessive mutations in the WRN gene; relatives of these individuals may be carriers. NIH gene review
