rs9402571 is a SNP in the serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1 SGK1 gene.
Three independent European populations were analyzed, with follow up in 3798 non-diabetic and 659 diabetic (type 2) individuals, for associations between SGK1 SNPs and insulin secretion. In lean non-diabetic individuals, rs9402571(G) minor allele carriers had higher (better) insulin response and lower prevalence of type-2 diabetes, with an odds ratio of 0.85 (CI: 0.7-1.0, p = .065, dominant model). [PMID 22648267] Polymorphisms in the serum- and glucocorticoid-inducible kinase 1 gene are associated with blood pressure and renin response to dietary salt intake.
