rs1545843 is one of two linked SNPs potentially associated (at a distance though) with the SLC6A15 gene; the other is rs1031681.
A GWAS study and meta-analysis ultimately including six independent samples, primarily Caucasion/European but also including an African-American sample, found that the rs1545843(A) allele was associated with higher risk for major depression, but only in individuals less than 55 years old and only when homozygous, with an odds ratio of 1.4 (p = 2 x 10e-8).[PMID 21521612]
