rs1937506 has been reported in a large study to be associated with high blood pressure.

The risk allele (oriented to the dbSNP entry) is (G); the odds ratio associated with heterozygotes is 1.33 (CI 1.04-1.69), and for homozygotes, 1.60 (CI 1.26-2.02). [PMID 17554300OA-icon.png]

As follows from results of Replication of the Wellcome Trust genome-wide association study of essential hypertension this SNP (rs1937506) only one of the top 6 SNPs which might be associated with essential hypertension in Americans of European origin. This SNP shows a significant but opposite effect in Americans of Hispanic origin. Each additional G allele of rs1937506 is associated with a 24.9 mmHg decrease of systolic blood pressure (SBP) in European Americans and with a 27.7 mmHg increase in Hispanic Americans. Considering diastolic blood pressure (DBP) each additional G allele is associated with a 8.7 mmHg decrease of DBP in European Americans, whereas the results are non-significant for Hispanic Americans.
