In Mount Olympus marathon runners, male athletes showed a statistically significant yet slight excess of the TT genotype at rs1799722 (bradykinin B2 receptor, BDKRB2) (P=0.018; P=0.006 when limited to 316 habitual male runners) [PMID 20044476]
Bradykinin is a potent endothelium-dependent vasodilator, leading to a drop in blood pressure. Bradykinin dilates blood vessels by stimulating the release of prostacyclin and nitric oxide (NO). Bradykinin levels are increased by ACE inhibitors.
