G2706A-, not MT-Haplogroup H
|
One of the 2 ancestral mitochondrial mutations needed for mitochondrial Haplogroup H. This is a non-synonymous mutation in the mitochondrial ribosome, and possibly in the neuroprotective protein humanin. Haplogroup H has been associated with increased risk of age-related neurological diseases, suggesting that this mutation (or some other) may slightly reduce the effectiveness of mitochondria or humanin.
